Ian Livingstone is a neurologist and the author of Breaking the Headache Cycle. He is a physician writing about a physician. The Physician's Testament began with a poem. In "An Epistle Containing the Strange Medical Experience of Karshish, the Arab Physician," Robert Browning imagined a first-century doctor writing to his mentor, trying to explain the case of a man named Lazarus, and failing. Browning posed the question in verse. Ian has spent three novels answering it in prose.
